BKH Gutmann

BKH – three letters, a trademark. The professor, who is now professor at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel, is the only known artist whose first name(s) cannot be found even through intensive internet research. Before he began his studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin in 1977, he left his Argentinean homeland and spent his youth in Speyer. He taught in Berlin, Oslo, Malmö and Bergen between 1987 and 2006. At the Biennale Balticum 1990 in Finland he presented himself for the first time in a group,in 1995 he started with individual exhibitions.

His connection with SCHMEES art is founded on the creation of two stainless steel objects”art objects with a practical application” in the form of drainage sieves, which mark the course of the former Kaitzbach.

The press wrote on the occasion of an exhibition: “Gutmann emphasizes the geometric order of his installations”. Gutmann calls himself a collector “who combines this and that from an undefined and instinctive motivation, then scans his archive, gathers objects and places them” associatively “in the installation”.
