“Success has many fathers”, says a proverb; the remarkable development of Edelstahlwerke SCHMEES into a world-renowned art forge is due not only to company boss Clemens Schmees but also to Johann Unglaub, managing director of the Pirna plant, and his team.

There is no such thing as “impossible”, is the motto of the trained model maker, who calls himself a “tinkerer”. With ingenuity, creativity, craftsmanship and great foundry expertise, SCHMEES enthusiastically faces all new challenges.

“With every order we learn something new”, Johann Unglaub describes the developments at SCHMEES art over almost 20 years. “The most important thing in all our work is the contact with the artist whose idea we want to realize. What does the artist want to say? What does he want to express? How does he tick? Artists want to know what we make of their thoughts, not only during the preliminary talks, but also during the process of creation”. They observe the creation of their sculptures with great anticipation. “The successful work is created on the basis of understanding, mutual acceptance and respect, and sometimes even friendships.

At SCHMEES, the combination of the latest technology, the right tools and the skill of craftsmanship help to create shiny masterpieces.

Until the finished masterpiece the projects go through different process stages. From computer-assisted planning, modeling, solidification simulation, the creation of forms and cores, melting, casting, heat treatment to mechanical or manual finishing.
